The Start


Why hello there!

Glad you came to stop by for a quick read.

I just wanted to write this first devlog to start off my game development journey with the world. 


After participating in McGame Jam 2020, my team and I (Dinobots) got really motivated in working on this game. These devlogs will be talking about our progress and our story.


Let's end this small read with a cool fact!

Did you know, everything about this game was initially done as a joke? Before the game jam, we had planned 2 games ahead of time so we wouldn't lose too much time. When they announced the theme ("Can't go back"), we realized that none of our pre-planned games were good. We ended up brainstorming for an hour on game ideas. Justin and Pierre got the general platform and puzzle aspect down, but we needed a story. With nothing on the table, we went on itch.io assets browser and found a cute little dino.

As a joke, I made up a pretty dark story to contradict the cutesy appearance of the dino. 

"On a calm and beautiful day, Dinonaut decided to take a stroll. When suddenly, a meteor crashes down. Everyone is panicking and running around. The ground is shaking, everything is burning up. Dinonaut suddenly remembers a legend his dad used to tell him. 'If you climb the tower located in the east, you will find a rocket-ship that will allow you to escape earth and visit other planets'. And so Dinonaut's adventure through the tower begins."

We were initially laughing at this story, but we ended up going with it since we had nothing at hand.

Oh and our team name? We thought of it on the spot when the staff asked for one. We didn't even know we had to name our team (it was our first game jam after all). Despite the rushed identity, I do like it. It kinda represents how we were a bunch of bots trying to make a Frankenstein of a game.
